What Do We Do?
Here at Winona Building Products, we specialize in creating the best insulation facing for various applications and insulation types. Protecting your insulation is crucial if you want to preserve its lifespan, and that’s especially true for steel and metal building insulation. We construct our vapor retarders to go above and beyond normal expectations by including three layers:
FSK — Foil. Scrim. Kraft. FSK insulation is commonly used by original equipment manufacturers during the construction of duct wraps, duct boards, and other common HVAC applications. This type of insulation facing serves both as a vapor barrier that controls moisture and a protective layer over the insulation’s fiberglass.
PSK — Polypropylene. Scrim. Kraft. Rather than the foil outer layer, PSK uses a plastic blend of polypropylene. This form of insulation facing is common with ductwork and also excels for metal building insulation and basement wall facings. The strength of the polypropylene prevents moisture from reaching the inner layers of your insulation.
While we primarily specialize in constructing the best insulation facings, we also have the ability to laminate specialty facings of your choosing. If you have a specialty foil, polypropylene, or other type of vapor barrier that you’d like adhered to layers of scrim and kraft, we can do so using the first eco-friendly adhesive.
How Do We Do It?
Our adhesive formula — the part of the process responsible for combining all three layers — is the first of its kind that achieves the necessary fire-retardant ratings and bonding capabilities without the use of any chemicals considered harmful to the environment by the International Living Future Institute. So, whether you turn to our pre-constructed insulation facings or partner with our contract laminators to make your own, you can rest assured that the product is environmentally friendly and safe for humans.
Both processes are completed at our facility in Indiana using state-of-the-art equipment that produces the woven scrim, adheres it to strong, breathable kraft paper, and laminates all pieces together through a series of rolling and nipping.
This is only a broad overview of the processes we follow at Winona Building Products to deliver the best insulation facing solutions possible. We’ll dive into more specifics during later series, but feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. When you are ready to experience the difference that leading vapor retarders and contract lamination services provide, partner with Winona Building Products.
